Poor Network speeds in Western areas of Port Elizabeth
The worst service and internet speeds ever! Please do not even think of going with Cell C if you live in Blue Horizon Bay/ Van Stadens/Seaview/Beachview or Greenbushes areas in Port Elizabeth. I have had numerous contracts over an extend period of time with Cell C and only recently since I have had to use my Cell for internet services experienced the poor network speeds of Cell C for above areas. Average download speed of 0.21 to 0.30 Mbps and upload speeds of 0.06 Mbps. It takes forever to download anything. I went to Bay West Mall also in Greenbushes/Western area of PE and took a MTN contract. Immediately my download speed increased to 30 -32 Mbps and uploads of about 12. I walked over to Cell C and cancelled 1 of my 4 contracts( bought it off). when asked why, I said to the lady I will do a speedtest in front of them, in the Bay West Mall. She said that I must remember that they have amplifiers etc installed that will boost the speeds. Nevertheless I did a speedtest in front of all staff and got a result of 0.04 Mbps and upload not registering. They were stunned. I used the same device and did a MTN test from the same spot inside the Cell c store and got 32 Mbps download and 12 upload. I had to then talk to the retention department of Cell C telephonically from the store and were questioned in detail on why I was cancelling my contract and still will cancel the others as well. The person I spoke to could not comprehend totally what I meant by poor internetspeeds but promised that the technical dept will investigate. Last week I received a call from Cell C where the caller said that it is known in the areas I am complaining about that speeds are bad as they do not have the infrastructure here or don't roam from other networkproviders towers. he promised that it would be looked at. I don't really care as I am moving away all my contracts with Cell C as this type of service is just bad. I need to rely on my Cell for creating a hotspot and going on with my work from home on my laptop whenever Telkom Internet is down and I cant rely on Cell C speeds for a back up. On the same spot in my house in Blue Horizon Bay, Cell C downloadspeed 0.04 Mbps, MTN 70.50 download and 15.51 upload, did the check 5 minutes ago!! I am and also was, very happy with the offerings that CellC had, but it does not help to have great offerings if the network is this bad. I have in the past also tried to explain to Cell C staff that the sms's we receive "buy so many Rands worth of airtime and get so many Cell C to Cell C minutes for free and so many data etc etc" is also not worth it as it expires so quickly that you don't use all up. If Cell C wants to become a really competitive player, Jack up the network and internet speeds in all areas to be the same as the big guns like Vodacom or Mtn and make these sms offerings subject to a longer period of validity before the minutes etc expires. Worst of all, no one to complain to except there customer service dept.
