Over Promise, Under Deliver

After almost 2 years of constant harassment I finally decided to accept a deal that was offered to me by Cell C…

I received a call from them on Wednesday 6 July offering me an upgrade on my expired contract. The offer was for an iPhone 5SE 64Gb Space Grey on Pinnacle 1 for R799p/m. To sweeten the deal I was told that there would be no upgrade charge, the phone would be in my hands on Friday the 8th, I would get an extra 300mb of data per month and they would only debit my account for the new contract amount at the end of August.

However, after arranging for someone to wait at home to receive the phone on the Friday, the phone was not delivered, nor was it delivered on the Monday, and when I called to enquire about this at midday on Tuesday 12th I was told that they had no stock and could not even give me an estimated delivery date. I really don’t think that it’s fair to have someone wasting their time waiting for a PROMISED delivery that doesn’t arrive and then expect them to wait indefinitely for the delivery. The phone did then arrive on Thursday 14th July.

My account was then debited on the 30th July for an amount just shy of R1100, I’ve also checked my balance today and found that I was not credited with the additional 300mb of data. Thus, not one of the promises that were the deciding factor in me accepting the offer were honoured.

As a bonus, I continue to receive weekly sms’s offering me upgrade deals, because what I really want from my cell phone provider is constant nagging to upgrade a contract which is already in place and not delivering on any of the PROMISED benefits. Thanks Cell C, great job. (Sarcasm entirely deliberate)
