No service during loadshedding
Now with the loadshedding doing its rounds in full swing I noticed that our Cell C tower also dies. I called in to ask why there is o signal and was told it is due to loadshedding. This, however, is not the truth as I know all cellphone towers have back up power/battery packs. People who live in Colorado still have full reception during loadshedding but us in Lentegeur do not. Now being with Cell C for more than 20 years has been fun but if I cannot access my network during loadshedding and I have an emergency then i might as well let the next person die as I cannot reach out to anyone. Thank you Cell C for thinking we are stupid, turns out we're not. Send your techicians out to Lentegeur and fix the tower close to the sports field.

Load shedding takes out the power to your nearest base station. The country’s big telecommunications companies do put as many measures in place as possible to ensure customers are still connected during the load shedding. However when load shedding hits they’re faced with a huge array of challenges.
Backup generators are primarily assigned to base stations where there is a high volume of traffic and it’s not possible to get generators to all load shedding affected areas. Additionally there is a knock-on effect that lingers after the period of load shedding. In some cases, transformers at substations trip and require Eskom manpower to bring those back online, extending the period without power. Additionally, electricity surges when power returns on may mean that equipment at base stations are affected and need to be replaced or rebooted before those sites can be restored.
On top of that, telecommunications companies see the rate of vandalism to network high-sites usually doubles during load shedding from its average of around 10-15%.
