Acc nr ********** 56

Cell nr **********

On the first of December 2016 I wanted to upgrade my phone. I was paying about R1 256.64 per month and the financial strain was getting to me, I wanted to cut cost so I went to Cell C’s head office, the one in Bloemfontein, to find out what I needed to pay to stop my contract and upgrade to a cheaper contract. They informed me that I needed to pay R3056.39. The amount included the monthly cost of R1256.64 which I already paid, so all I needed to pay was R1799.75. I then phoned the retention department to confirm that I just needed to pay the R3056.39 of which the R1256.64 was already paid.

I then went to my father to borrow the R1 799.75 and he paid it into the Cell C account (I got the banking details from the Cell C retention department). I was told the money would take 48 hours to reflect on Cell C's side, so I waited 2 days and went to Cell C Mimosa Mall on the 8th of December to do an upgrade. I was help by a friendly lady named Precious. Precious tried to help me with the upgrade but could not because my contract was not cancelled. She phoned Cell C and tried to find out what was going on, after a lot of phone calls she told me that the money was placed on my account as credit and not as the money to pay up my account.

Precious and I then phoned Cell C to sort out their mistake, I was informed by Cell C that the mistake was sorted out but would take time to reflect. I did not have time because I work on the road and rarely have time to go into a store. Precious then had the idea to take a whole new contract and when the old contract goes to prepaid, within 30 days, I could just change my new number to my old number. We tried to activate a new contract on my name but I did not qualify for the amount of the new and the old contract, which was R 1 256.64 plus the new contract of R 731.58.

Precious and I phoned again and informed Cell C of the circumstances and they then approved me and I did the new contract in the full understanding that my previous would be cancelled within 30 days and that I can then go into a store and change my number back to my previous number.

Precious also informed me that I would not be paying anything on December the 31st, except for the new contract fee of R195, I would only start paying on January 31st, and then I would pay pro rata for December. I agreed to the terms and waited for the 30 days to go by.

On the 31st of January Cell C deducted R 4035.58 from my account. I phoned Cell C but no one could tell me what was going on. I phoned again and again and no one could help me. I phoned again on the 4th of February and the consultant told me all I needed to do was phone another number (I can’t remember the number) to cancel my contract. I phoned the number on the 7th of February and they informed me that the contract would be cancelled on the 7th of March. Only on the 7th of March my contract got cancelled.

I phoned Cell C to find out what I was paying for, and they sent me my detailed accounts. I noticed that the R1799.75 I paid was gone and that they charged me the R 1799.75 again and they charged me for December because nothing went off in December, even thou the contract was supposed to be cancelled, they told me that I was in areas.

I then phoned Cell C to find out where my R1799.75 went and they could not tell me, and they could not tell me why I was charged an additional R1799.75. They then put me through to the Trade Help Desk, where I spoke to a Megan. I told Megan my story and she agreed that something was wrong and that Cell C owed me the 3 months paid for the contract that was cancelled and the R1799.75 that they deducted for no good reason, but that the store where I did the new contract should take responsibility and pay me back the money.

I am still waiting for the case to be sorted out.

On the 7th of March my old contract was cut of and successfully cancelled, but on the 31st of March I was charged the full amount of the cancelled and cut of contract again, and I went to the manager at the Cell C Mimosa Mall branch, Armand, and asked him what to do. Armand advised me to go to FNB and reverse the money and just pay the amount due on the new account. I then paid R992 for the money that was due on my account and send the proof of payment through to Armand and he in return send it through to the corresponding department.

Cell C then cut of my line, which I use for my studies which I can no longer complete because of Cell C. I would like this sorted out and my money paid back as well as my line opened up so that I can catch up on my studies.

I would appreciate a quick and honest response as this is causing me a greate deal of stress and financial issues.
