Lack of communication resulting in consumer having to fork out half the cost of a new phone to repair existing phone
Good Day
I recently upgrade my cellphone from a Samusung S6 edge to the Samsung S8 in May 2017. When the contract was taken out I was not informed of or offered Samsung care by the Cell C consultant. I have a 2 year warranty that has come with the phone. This month, I had an accident which resulted in my phone screen being damaged. I contacted Samsung repair centre in Riverhorse valley in Durban, South Africa regarding my free screen repair. They advised that unless I have Samsung care, they will charge FROM R4500 to repair the phone. I asked them if is possible to get Samsung care now and was told it has to be done within a month of purchase.I then contacted my Cell C consultant to find out what is Samsung Care and why it was not offered to me at the time of my upgrade. He explained that my upgrade happened in May and he was only informed of Samsung Care in August. So, there was no way I would have been able to get Samsung care during the upgrade process or within a month of purchase.
As the consumer, I find this response 100% unacceptable. How was I supposed to obtain something that was not available to me during the specific time period? My cell c consultant has been more than helpful but unfortunately cannot provide me with a solution or a way forward. Any ideas on who should repair the phone, because i find it hard to accept that I, the consumer needs to pay half the cost of a new phone when I was not offered or informed of a necessary product at the time of purchase.
