Life was much easier when “Apple” and “Blackberry” were fruits only. Is it a known fact that “Technology” and “Old age” are dangerous elements when merged? Technology becomes more threatening to old age as opposed to much easier to the younger generation that operates mobile phones and computers instantaneously. These are PERCEPTIONS Having said that, this review aims at complementing the young ones that still respects older people and treats them as if it they are own grandparents. On 22 August 2019 I had to buy and insert a new SIM card for a relatively modernised smart phone. With my eye sight deteriorating each day it was almost an impossible task to open the smart phone, insert the SIM with precision, restart the applications, navigating through menus and read the SMS with the OTP. A lovely young lady, known as Kate, at Cell C in the Brooklyn Mall Pretoria, assisted me with such tender understanding and without judging or defining me as “stupid”. She did everything on the system, copied my supporting documents such as ID, Proof of address and inserted the SIM, helped me to open AND READ the SMS with the OTP, activated the SIMon the network and made sure I was fully operational before I left the store. Was there any commission or big money for this young lady in this deal? The answer is “No”. Remember, I bought a SIM card only. She did it merely because she: • Cares for other • Respects people • Delivers service with passion not expecting to get anything in exchange. • is well educated by her parents Unfortunately in recent days it has become a trend that people only helps if one is able to reward them on the spot and in rand value. It is such a great honour to salute this young lady. The youth is the pillars of the future and the future can only be built on a sound foundation if the pillars are strong. Sometimes I lose faith in people and in the future. Small deeds such as these remind me not to judge and rather build on the positive things. The moral of the story that struck me most, is that people seems to judge the elderly as “STUPID”. Let me re-iterate my opening lines and NOW add on, it is a PERCEPTION that the elderly are stupid and not compatible with technology. Such a perception would not have existed if we had more people with such strong characteristics. It does not mean if one is unable to see properly that one is slow in understanding. It means one takes longer to react because one is still trying to “see” the letters before one can convert that into words and to create the fast understanding that follows on to that “sight.” Due to impatience of others, the ones unable to see properly throw in the towel to save others from being impatient. In conclusion, this review is to show true appreciation to Kate. You are an inspiration to many others. Please share this review with proud and show it to your parenta, grandparents, family, friends and the entire public. You are well appreciated by the elderly.
