Held to ransom by unfair business practice

I have been awaiting the release of the Samsung Galaxy S6. My contract actually expired but has remained with Cell C until the official launch. I am no longer in contract and on month-to-month. Cell C was the last to launch the S6 and guaranteed the best packages.

Not only did Cell C not hold 2 devices as asked, they were more than R100 more expensive.

I decided to move to MTN. I took out a new contract and requested Cell C to cancel my contract and change to Pay As You Go so I could port my number across. I was told this was done and I have to wait 30 days as that is the cancellation period.

I am no longer in contract. Why is there a cancellation period? I also never agreed to a cancellation period as this was never discussed with me at the time of taking out my contract.

When I moved my contract to Cell C I was not held to ransom as Cell C are doing. My number was ported immediately.

I have spoken with 2 people at the cancellations/retentions department and they refuse to assist. When I spoke to customer care they were very understanding and said this could be done.

This is in breach of a number of TCF Outcomes which is unfair and unacceptable.

I need this resolved.
