********** MARKETING SCHEME BY CELL C

I made a formal complaint to Cell C on the 1st of August based on the following facts and never got help:

On the week of the 23rd to 27th of May 2016 a Cell C agent by the name of Shaheem (sp) called me regarding a Cell C wi-fi modem promotion that was currently taking place and part of his marketing he stipulated that the wi-fi consists of 20G of data for R200 monthly fee, moreover that the 20G could be used throughout the day to night. I specifically asked what was the catch as the del seemed too good to be true, and he disclosed that the modem stays Cell C’s property should I cancel the contract.

When I received the wi-fi modem of the 3rd of June, it came to my attention that the 20G was actually divided into two, 5G for day and 15 G for night use. I immediately called the Cell C team as I was not happy with the marketing strategy that was used by the agent as it was “false-advertising”. Moreover, I was also experiencing technical problems regarding to connectivity with the modem. Sikhumbuzo from Cell C support, however, convinced me that this is still a bargain and that internal steps will be taken in dealing with Shaheem.

The last event that led me to write this formal complaint is that on Thursday, 29 July, I was experiencing problems with connectivity and asked for assistance from the Cell C support team. On enquiry of when the amount for July would be deducted as the last amount of R185/72 was debited upon my first use of the modem on the 7th of June 2016, I was informed that I would have to pay R426.00 for my modem as my wi-fi is an open line and an extension was made when the bundles ran out. He further alerted me that the same amount of R426 would be debited at the end of August. This was a shock to me as I was never advised about that and I have never made an agreement based on those terms . Further, I have never even received invoices so far pertaining to the contract.

Maropeng, who assisted me, promised to listen to the recordings and assist accordingly, however, I have not received any updates on the process.

I therefore, seek immediate assistance regarding the matter and an immediate cancellation of the contract with Cell C.

The reference received regarding the matter is ********** 535.
