Extremely disappointing returns policy at Cell C

I bought a USB-C to Lightning cable from the Cell C store in Cavendish Square (Cape Town), but the next day realised I’d rather get the original cable from the iStore.

I had opened the box, but had not even removed the cable from the plastic container that it was wrapped in.

When I tried to return it at their Stellenbosch branch during the same week, the staff were unable to assist as the manager wasn't in-store and told me to come back the next day. The manager then said they couldn’t process the return since I hadn’t bought it from that store — even though they sell the exact same product — and that I’d have to go back to Cape Town.

I then went back to Cavendish branch (still within 7 days of purchase). The team was polite but made me wait ages while the manager (not in store) decided whether they’d take it back. They inspected the cable, completely unused and working, and said they'd get back to me later in the day. A few hours later, they called to say that they don’t accept returns unless an item is damaged.

This experience has been extremely frustrating and absolutely shocking from a customer service and returns policy point of view. Every major retailer in the country allows returns of unused products within a reasonable period. Cell C’s policy, however, feels extremely and unfair. I’ll never purchase accessories from Cell C again and strongly advise others to be aware of this abnormal and restrictive return policy.
