Don't try to cancel a Cell C account

• In 2017 on the 17th of July I used their facility on the Cell C website to cancel this contract, which was at that stage only R20 a month. I have not been using the Cell C number since that day. I was under the impression it was done and then in January 2018 I started getting calls to say I am behind on my monthly payment – so obviously the feature to cancel a contract on the website does not work – so why bother! • My first response to the lady when she phoned me in January was to say I will not pay as I have cancelled the contract, but as I did not have proof on my side, I eventually decided that I will pay the outstanding amount as per their records. • On 11 January 2018 I spoke to an agent who said the outstanding amount is R160, that if I pay it, I should phone them in a few days’ time to confirm that Cell C has received the payment. I made the payment on the 11 January and sent them proof of payment.. The ref for the call was ********** ********** 92. • I phoned on the 16th January 2018 to confirm that you have received the payment. I spoke to Hlamulo at 14:00, who said the payment was received and that he will close the account – which he subsequently did.

So according to me, I have paid the outstanding amount and the account is closed. Low and behold on 6 Feb I receive another account which clearly indicate that the account is still open and running into arrears again! It seems like non of the agents know what they are talking about and the different systems do not talk to each other, it’s like something from Noah’s ark! So now my battle starts all over again to try and close the account!!
