Does Cell C advertise promotions that they do not intend to honour?

Recently I was looking to purchase a new phone. After searching around I came across prepaid specials listed on the Cell C website. The special was for the iPhone X 64gb listed for around 50% off the selling price at R8999. The 256gb model was listed for R9999. Apparently, the reason for the sale is due to a sort of clearance promotion. As there was no stock of the item, I could not purchase the phone from the website. I then called a Cell C store who was aware of the deal and did advise that they would check for stock and get back to me. I also called-in to the call centre and was advised that the deal was still on and cellc was awaiting stock. Not getting any feedback and wanting to miss out on the deal, I also sent messages to the Cell C Facebook account which were responded to. I was advised that there was stock of the device however, I was then advised that the price was now R17999. The person assisting me was not helpful and did not understand that the reason for the price of R8999 was due the a sale and instead sent me the price of an iPhone 8 for R12000 and stated that I should look at the iPhone 8 and how much it was. This translated as "in your dreams bud". I then asked the Cell C rep if Cell C ever had such deal as it started to seem as though Cell C put up the promotion, but never intended to honour it. I then stated that if this is indeed true then it would be false advertising.

I did not receive a response to my last messages at the time of posting this and even indicated that a lack of a response would lead to a complaint being lodged. Even this did not elicit a response.

I am disappointed that Cell C is engaging in this practice and think a formal complaint will need to be lodged if they do not respond in a reasonable manner to this complaint.
