DO NOT TAKE A CONTRACT WITH CELL C.
DO NOT TAKE A CONTRACT WITH CELL C.
I am writing this with a very heavy heart.
Background.
I made a Fibre to home application to Cell C on the 23rd January 2020, after my application was approved, I started using Cell C's services. I then requested for my package to be downgraded to 10MbpsUP/10MbpsDOWN. This was offered at a value of R649.00 at the time when I downgraded. The agreement was that Cell C would debit my account for the said amount to pay for Fibre. After 7 months, Cell C decided to change the contact price to R719.00 which was not the initial agreement. All this happened without my knowledge as I wasn't informed about the increase on the amount of the contract, and I never received the copy of this contract. Besides, I wasn't aware that the service provider can change the contract agreement as and when they feel like changing it. Since the agreement included my bank, Cell C could not take more money that we had agreed to because the bank wouldn't allow them to.
After this back and forth, I then went to the Cell C store in the Mall of Africa (27 January 2021) to try and get the issue resolved. I then spoke to a gentleman (forgot his name) and asked him to email me a copy of my contract, which he said he would email on that Friday. I did not receive that copy even today. While I was talking to him, he told me that the price change on the contract was Cell C's decision and it lies with Cell C to change the prices as and when they feel like doing so. This was a complete surprise to me. I then asked him if that was the case, why didn't Cell C contact me prior to the increase of the contract price, he then said to me there was communication which I don't have or never received.
After requesting for the contract to be cancelled, they charged me R2000+ as a cancellation penalty.
CELL C WILL CHANGE THE TERMS OF THEIR CONTRACT AS AN WHEN THEY FEEL LIKE IT. THIS IS AGAINST CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT
