DO NOT GET INTO ANY DEALINGS WITH CELL C!!!!!

I had a Cell C data only contract for many years and I was a loyal member of Cell C during this time until my recent experience. Firstly, my contract was up for renewal late last year. Turns out, that some *********** being in Cell C Retentions ********ly decided to upgrade my contract without my consent. I was paying R238 a month for my contract and to my amazement, upon receiving my statement in January 2026, I was surprised to see it increase to R440. I called the Retentions team and wanted to terminate and I was told that my contract was upgraded late last year 2025 and had to honour my contract until the end of 2026. I then asked to discuss this matter with a Team Leader who assisted me and told me that they are going to launch an investigation into the matter and get back to me. This useless Team Leader additionally, confirmed on the recorded line, that my contribution would only be R440 for January and it will revert to my old contribution (R238) from February onwards. A week later (as if I hadn't been surprised enough until this point), I received an SMS stating that my case was resolved and now closed. I did not receive any call or email stating what had transpired and the events that led to my upgrade being authorised without my go-ahead. A week later, in early Feb 2026, I then received my statement and was flabbergasted at the amount due at the end of Feb (R870). I then called the Retentions team again and got through to a lady called Dimakhatso. Believe me when I say, I encountered unprofessionalism personified to the absolute core! I gave her all the information required surrounding my situation including the case number and she went on to advise me that they do require 30-days notice for termination which would lead to my termination date being the 5th of March 2026. She then went on to advise me that I would still be debited at the end of March despite my last day of cover being on the 5th of March ( I actually couldn't believe what she was telling me at this point and laughed so hard at this). I went on to question this and ask her to advise me accordingly and correctly as it is ********* and ******** to take money from a consumer after their contract has been terminated. Dimakhatso then answered me with one word answers and took long pauses to do so which tells me she knows absolutely nothing and was not trained appropriately to deal with terminating contracts at Cell C. She then advised me that a Team Leader, Jabu would call me the very same afternoon after she was done in a meeting. Needless to say, I did not receive a call back and I had to call in again the next day, on the 6th of Feb. I got through to Katherine in the Retentions team who finally assisted me in a way I should have been assisted in the first place! She eventually assisted me in terminating my contract for the end of Feb. It's an absolute pity that after many years of being a loyal customer of Cell C that I was treated with utter disrespect and disgust by Dimakhatso, Jabu, and a few others. The calibre of people Cell C employs should have some common sense and should be trained in the art of customer care and company policy before speaking to customers!
