******** debit orders and failure to cancel expired contracts

I am lodging a complaint regarding what I can only describe as an unacceptable and exploitative experience with Cell C.

My contract with Cell C expired three years ago, yet despite numerous attempts to cancel it, I continue to be billed R900 per month. Over this entire period, I have made repeated efforts to resolve this matter through the Cell C call centre, only to be met with a system that appears deliberately designed to frustrate and exhaust customers.

Each time I call, I am redirected to a “contract cancellation department” that never answers. I have spent up to six hours at a time, repeatedly, over the course of three years, waiting for assistance that never comes. This is not inefficiency—it is obstruction.

Your cancellation process is fundamentally broken. It creates a barrier so severe that customers are effectively forced to give up, while you continue to debit their accounts. This is deeply concerning and raises serious questions about your business practices.

To make matters worse: Your retail stores refuse to assist, pushing customers back to the same unresponsive call centre. My bank has declined to stop the debit order, citing the original mandate—despite the contract having long expired.

The result is that I have been ********ly charged for three years, with no viable way to stop it through your official channels.

Let me be absolutely clear: 1. I demand the immediate cancellation of this contract. 2. I require a full refund of all amounts debited since the contract expiry date. 3. I expect written confirmation that no further debits will be processed.

Your failure to provide a functional cancellation process, combined with continued billing after contract expiry, is unacceptable. It places unnecessary financial strain on customers and reflects a disregard for basic consumer rights.

I cannot help but wonder how many other South Africans are experiencing the same treatment—trapped in a system that prevents them from exercising their right to cancel.

If this matter is not resolved urgently, I will have no choice but to escalate it to the relevant regulatory authorities and pursue further action.

I expect a prompt response.
