Data connector deception

After upgrading I got a call from a sales agent offering a 5Gig data contract. I said that's a lot of data, the agent said, it's not a problem, I can share the data between my phone and other devices, even share it with family and friends, all I need to do is go to the nearest store and ask for a data connector. When I finally got time to go to a store, they told me that's not how it works at all, you can only share the data with a new number. I feel I have been conned into buying a data contract that can't be used for the purpose I bought it for.
