Complaint Regarding SIM Card Service and Customer Support Experienc
I am writing to express my disappointment with the service I received during a recent interaction with your customer support team regarding a SIM card issue.
On Friday, 18th October, I purchased data for my Cell C SIM card, which I intended to use with my router. Unfortunately, I was unable to connect to the internet. Today, 22nd October, I tested the SIM card on my phone and noticed that it displayed an "emergency service only" message. I decided to call your support line for assistance.
The first consultant I spoke with (I regret that I cannot recall his name) informed me that the SIM card was damaged and advised me to either visit a store with my identification documents or call before 8 p.m. to do a SIM swap telephonically. Given that I urgently needed internet access, I asked my partner to rush to the store and purchase an un-RICA’d SIM card, assuming I could quickly resolve the issue by calling again.
To my surprise, when I called again, another consultant (whose name I also do not recall) told me that a SIM swap could not be performed online. This directly contradicted the information I had received earlier. When I asked how this was possible and inquired about the name of the previous consultant, she informed me that she could not see it in the system, which left me feeling frustrated and without answers.
On my third attempt, I spoke to a consultant named Swazi Mpako. Although the conversation started well, it took a negative turn when I mentioned how inconvenient and unfriendly the system was. I explained that I needed to use the data I had purchased, but Swazi insisted that only a store could perform the SIM swap and was unable to explain why the system rejected my request. This further added to my frustration as I am unable to visit a store during the week due to work commitments, and the closest Cell C branch closes at 5 p.m., which is also when my workday ends. When I asked if I would be compensated for the data I could not use due to this issue, Swazi stated that no compensation would be given. When I expressed that this was unfair, he began to display an unprofessional attitude and even refused to provide his surname, citing concerns about customers "naming and shaming" him.
I am deeply disappointed with the level of service I received. As a customer with two contracts with Cell C, I expected better communication, consistency in information, and professionalism from your support team. This experience has caused significant inconvenience, and I am now reconsidering my relationship with your company.
I kindly request that you investigate this matter and provide an explanation for the conflicting information I received as well as why my SIM swap request was rejected by the system. Additionally, I would appreciate clarity on whether I will be compensated for the data I was unable to use due to the damaged SIM card and the delays caused by your system.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope to receive a prompt and satisfactory resolution.
