Cheapest Internet In South Africa "Or So They Claim"

After seeing all the adds about Cell C’s cheap data and some research I decided to give them a go and purchased a pay as you go sim card to use solely for data.

Over the past two months I have tested it and was pleased with the network speed, even obtaining an unrestricted APN was hassle free. To load data I simply made ETF payments to that number, log in to my account with their app and select the data bundle I want…….. done.

Being satisfied with the order of things I decided to purchase their Giga Package. “R1999.00 for 200GB anytime data valid for 365 days”. I transferred R2000.00 to that number and logged in to purchase the 200GB bundle only to find the app does not allow that transaction (it does not form part of the dropdown selection). I phoned customer care to resolve the issue (received very friendly service) but was told that from their side it was not possible and I should visit one of their stores as they should be able to assist me. Upon my visit, I was told that they could also not assist as this service is usually purchased in store and their system allows pretty much the same options as the self-service site.

Again I phone customer care and was told to go back to a store as they must be able to assist and that I should phone customer care while at the store. That I did indeed do, only to hit another brick wall.
Only after the store manager explained the proses to the customer care agent she told me it is not possible. I have according to her followed the wrong procedure in loading the data and they could not be held responsible for it, nor assist me further. I ask you…. If three different employees of Cell C do not know the exact means of purchasing Giga Packages…. how should the end user?

Fact of the matter is, I have R2000.00 in actual rand value, the bundle Cell C advertise is R1999.00 but the two cannot come together. Seeing that the customer care agent made it clear that a conversion or refund is not in the cards I am having a tough time deciding if it is pathetic or just plain ********!!!! Given my current scenario the best option would be to purchase two 20GB bundles @ R999.00 each and stretch them over 60 days…. a far call from 200GB valid for 365 days!!!!!!!!
