CellC - what are you thinking?

I have been a long standing customer of CellC. I have 3 active contracts and wanted to cancel the third as I was no longer using the sim. Called in during month of August and requested to cancel the contract, to be told by the service agent at CellC that the contract is due to expire on 2 September so I should call back on 1 Sept to cancel. I call back as of today and surprise, turns out the contract is only expiring on 2 October… I smell a rat. Are Cell C extending the contracts ‘expiry’ dates to make it harder to cancel the contract? To throw the customer off?

Additionally, I am not sure WHO ON EARTH suggested that CellC should call you as the customer and proceed to PLACE YOU ON HOLD whilst YOU wait for the call centre agent to speak to you! This is absurd and infuriating. I can’t be the first person to complain about this. It needs to stop.

Dear Dawn Herbst,

Thank you for your time yesterday. As discussed:

  • Your pending cancellation order is scheduled to be completed on 02/10/2025, which is the correct end date of your contract.
  • The last payment for this line will be on 30/10/2025, as the monthly benefits will still be loaded on the 1st and therefore payable.
  • We also noted your concern about being put on hold, and we’ll address this with our Sales Team, who may have been trying to reach you regarding an upgrade.

Although you were not fully satisfied, we appreciate your understanding of the explanation provided.
We’d be grateful if you could take a moment to rate our service by clicking the link sent to you via email and SMS. Your feedback helps us improve and serve you better.
