CellC - Do you even care?

Hi

A CellC number which we have been using for a few years was deactivated by CellC on Monday past. It is a business number and was working on Saturday (01 Feb 2025). On Monday (03 Feb 2025) it stopped working.

We called CellC and they informed us that it had been deactivated. We then asked if they could reactivate it as it was essential to the business (the cell number is listed on all business cards and business signage), and would cost a huge amount to update the number on the cards/signage).

We were just simply told NO it's impossible to reactivate it (without any real empathy).

We are just simple small business people trying to run a little business which supports a few other ladies and their families. This loss of cell phone number means we have lost access to Whatsapp and subsequently lost access to our customers that were listed on our Whatsapp account. So basically a loss of income.

This whole thing seem so ridiculous, I mean it would be so simple if when they deactivated your sim, that you could just at least have a 7day window period in which to recover it (reactivate it). But no, it's working one day then vrek the next day, and there's nothing one can do to fix it. How does that make any normal human sense?

These are just normal ordinary mostly single income women trying to make a living for their family and friends. And now they have to deal with this mess.

It's just really really sad.

After running around to many different CellC shops we were ultimately told the number is gone forever, as it would be recycled to another future sim card and there was no way we could get it back and that was just our problem and we need to just deal with it.

Just ridiculous!!

Dear  Marlon Jardine,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the deactivation of your Cell C number.

To keep a number active, it is essential to use the SIM card related to the number and recharge it every 30-60 days while making a billable transaction.
The number linked with the SIM card *** was contracted to Cell C and was deactivated in April 2024. The number is now serviced by MTN.

We encourage you to contact the person who registered the SIM card during the time the number was at Cell C. For further assistance in having the number reactivated, please contact MTN directly.

We understand the frustration and impact this has had on your business, and we genuinely regret any inconvenience caused.

We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Regards,
Cell C | NZ

Best regards,
