Cell C violating ICASA and POPIA laws over lost hardware dispute
I am writing this out of sheer frustration and disappointment after dealing with shocking incompetence and negligence from Cell C from 2 September 2026. I have sent numerous emails providing irrefutable proof that this device belongs to me, yet your complete lack of competence continues to allow an unauthorized person to use my lost device, severely compromising my personal information and privacy daily. My dual-SIM mobile device (Redmi A5) was lost on 15 August. MTN successfully blacklisted IMEI Slot 1 (under ITC Reference Number: ***7) but confirmed in writing that IMEI Slot 2 is actively running an unauthorized Cell C SIM card. Because the unauthorised person is using a Cell C number, MTN cannot block that second slot. However, Cell C's frontline staff ,the Westgate cellC physical store, customer services and ***** department are refusing to blacklist the hardware because they demand that I provide them with the cellphone number of the unknown person using my phone *****ulently and *******ly. Hardware blacklisting targets the physical IMEI number on the national database, not a SIM card. By refusing to process this block despite being provided with my ID, original proof of purchase, and SAPS Case Number (51/08/2026), Cell C is enabling a ******** to use my hardware. This is a direct violation of Section 19 of POPIA and national ICASA crime prevention regulations. The only thing Cell C is good for is sending automated query rating emails that fill up your inbox without anyone actually responding to or resolving your query. I expect an organization to obey the law, but it clearly seems our information is not safe with this organization. Ref Ticket: SD#-***8.
