Cell C Theft
I have had a data contract with Cell C for just over two years, 100gb anytime data for R539 per month, which expired on 22 November 2020. This deal included a router, which was R70.79pm. I did not cancel the contract, as I was happy for it to run month to month after expiry, expecting the monthly fee to drop by R70.79, as my device had been paid off. Instead, my bill for November was R682.67. I called and cancelled my contract, because why should I pay more after paying off my device? I was told the contract would be terminated 27 December with a months notice. My bill for December was then R1007.77.
After calling customer care to dispute, I received a ref no, and was told I would be called within two business days. Three weeks later, nothing. After calling a second time, and receiving a new ref. no, I was told that you tried contacting me on the 11 December, but no one answered. You have my email address, and my cell phone number, but you call a sim card that's in a router, and got no answer, and thought that was good enough from your side.
I was then told that the price of my contract was actually R1007.77 pm, but I received a discount for two years, which was no longer valid after 24 months. Nowhere, apart from the final statement, have I ever seen this number. And there is no possible way you would price a product at R1007.77pm, and then give a 53.46% discount to a nice round R539, unless your aim was to deliberately deceive just like I was.
My questions... If I had a credit score allowing me R550 spend, you would have would approved this contract, but after two years my monthly commitment would be double my allowable spend. Surely there is some grey area here legally on your part. Especially after applying a hard spend limit at R539 to make sure I never used out of bundle data.
Secondly, do you really give a loyal customer the choice after two years to upgrade to a new contract, or secretly make them pay double the original contracted amount for less service (no router to pay off anymore). Especially since your current deal for 100gb, plus 100gb night surfer now, is R389pm.
This really is just theft. And when I request my money back, I get told that there is nothing Cell C can do because I got this contract from a Cell C shop, and I should have been told that this would happen when I signed, and I have to prove that I wasn't told this to get my money back. From a sales rep in a retail shop from 2 years ago, sure...
I am waiting for a call back from you, or you can just return the ****** money.
