Cell C, the nine circles of bureaucracy hell
I had a contract with Cell C for the last 2 years.
When my contract was up for upgrading, they absolutely spammed me. Not just on my cell phone, but also on my work number. And by this I mean, I'd get to my desk with 10 missed calls on my phone.
To stop their incessant calling for their upgrade, I answered my phone and explained to the operator that I would like my contract to go over to pay-as-you-go when it ends (which is in November). She said would do that, and asked me if I would like a data bundle of 1 gig on top of that, to which I agreed. As things go, the next day my phone has no minutes or data. So I call Cell C and they explain to me that it has been moved to pay-as-you-go. I ask them why it was done, and can it be reversed because my contract hasn't ended. They say they can't reverse I have to call the cancellations department (they will feature again later). Okay, so I accept the fate Cell C has bestowed upon me. I buy myself some airtime (yes Cell C I will also show you I had to do this, because I was moved to pay-as-you-go and forgone my minutes and data).
So here comes end of September and I get my bill. Full amount for my contract (which a couple of weeks ago was a pay-as-you-go). So I call them. My contract is now a hybrid. What?! When did I agree to this!? A couple of weeks ago you said it was pay-as-you-go, now it is a hybrid? This was not my agreement. The call centre operator would not back down or listen to the fact that they might have made a mistake or even have the ability to do anything about the mistake. I tried to explain myself, even asked them to go listen to their own recordings. She just said they cannot do that. I have to call the cancellations department if I want to cancel this contract. Okay, seriously. You made this mistake, now I must fix it for you. That is absolute nonsense. How about some customer service and YOU fix YOUR mistake? I asked if I could speak to the manager, was placed on hold. Then she said I cannot speak to the manager, I must sort this out myself. I asked three more times. Then got through to the 'manager. She was just as unhelpful and said I need to contact the cancellations department, and I must call to get the other recordings pulled. And saying things along the lines of "that's just how things are". No Cell C, I pay you every single month. It's not how things are. Be professional, learn to deal with customers. So the only way to get customers to back-off is to cover them in walls of bureaucracy. It is unacceptable.
Please fix your mess and change your attitudes.
