Cell C refusing to cancel month to month contract

I took out a month to month data contract with Cell C knowing that i would not need it for too long as i was getting fibre, now im trying to cancel the contract and Cell C are telling me they have updated my contract to 24 month contract which i knew nothing about and they say that they told me via sms??? how do you tell someone about contract changes? this is a 2 way agreement so how can i just be told? can i sms Cell C and TELL them that i wont be paying anymore and then that will be right?

This is ******* and a contract sold under false pretenses. I hope that the consumer is protected against this? i will be lodging a complaint to whomever is willing to listen. i cannot be stuck paying a contract i did not agree to. And worse still In order to get out of the contract i must pay R2000?

please man this is so blatant.
