Cell C not complying with the requirements of the POPI Act?
I have received an SMS today on my data # ***, reading: "+*** (1) 1 Donation of £1,000,000.00 has been given to you. Send email to: ***" This is clearly, a phishing email The question is: where did the sender get my number? I point out that the number is for my data contract and therefore not "in the public space". The only SMS's that I usually receive on this # are from yourselves, eg: notification of log in & data usage notifications - meaning that the # operates in a closed environment - me and yourselves only So, where did the sender get my number from and how? It seems clear that you are not protecting my personal information as required per the POPI Act Explanation please!

28 Feb 2022, 19:15Of course it wasn't from Cell C!!!!! Don't you understand what phishing is and how ******** obtain numbers that they send their phishing emails to????? I repeat: my data number is not used publicly. It is only the connection between my systems and yours and used exclusively from my side when I connect to the internet and on your side when you send me sms messages related to that number. I certainly would not give anyone the data cotract number so again, where do you think that the sender of the email got it from???? I trust that you guys do know what the POPI Act is but it certain,ly looks like you're not meeting your obligations as far as protection of private information is concerned as required per the Act
