Cell c. My phone is under warranty, repair?

In December I took my phone into cell c alberton. Didn't want to charge. I have not heard anything from them for over a month so I decide to find out how far my phone is. The cell c employee at the shop informed me that I will not be getting my phone back, it is damaged beyond repair. I asked him, surely seeing that my phone is under warranty I need to get a new phone from cell c. He said no. And what about all my personal data that was on my phone? This really is very bad service seeing that they didn't even inform me. Now I'm left phoneless and dataless.
