Cell C Lies to Get Contract Extended

Recently Cell C phoned me regarding my data contract (giga 20). They said that if I upgrade, I get a new mifi modem AND that my mobile data will renew after 24 hours. So I accepted, used up allot of of my data, but now my data did NOT reset. Why was I then told that my data will reset? Did they lie just to sweeten the deal?
