CELL C IS LAUGHABLY ***********

I took out a new contract on the 23rd September and requested my prepaid Telkom number to be ported to said contract. The consultant at the Randfontein store where I purchased the contract informed me that the porting would take anything from "2 hours to a few days" and I would receive an sms when it had been completed. I thus waited, periodically checking if the Cell C SIM had been activated. I was not desperate for communication since my Telkom SIM was still active.

I worked out of town for the week of the 26th to 30th September, during which time the SIM had still not been activated. I visited the store on the 3rd October, enquiring about the non-activation.

After calling the porting or activation department, the consultant ascertained that my Telkom number was "on probation" as she called it, and the request for porting had to be completed on the 25th September to activate it. None of this was explained to me when I signed up for the contract. I did not undertand what she meant, but she assured me that after speaking to the relevant departments the porting and activation would take place "either today or tomorrow (Monday or Tuesday)". She said it was a big problem to port the number and asked if I would rather not take a new number to "make things easier". I declined this offer, for obvious reasons.

The activation did not occur on Monday the 3rd October nor on Wednesday the 4th October, so I visited the store again. The consultant informed me that she had not heard back from "those departments" but she would follow up now. After calling numberous people in certain departments, this is the solution that was offered:

I could take out a new contract at a higher price than I initially signed up for in order to keep my number. Incidentally, the new contract does not suit my needs at all, but that's beside the point.

I made it clear what I was not prepared to sign up for a new unsuitable, pricier contract when I had just purchased one less than two weeks ago. And I also made it clear that the onus was on Cell C to inform me of possible complications with my Telkom number that I wanted ported. To date I have not received a single communication to that effect.

However, the final straw resulting in me wrting this review was being called "stupid" by your consultant for not wanting to make things "easier" by either accepting a new number or signing up for a new contract which she said was "much better". Begs the question why I was sold the initial contract since that one was also described as "the best deal".

I eagerly await your response.
