Cell C incorrect hand-over to attorneys, credit profile damaged – unresolved for almost a year

I closed my Cell C account lawfully in 2025. Months later, I was contacted about an alleged outstanding balance of R70.

I immediately requested the amount and banking details in writing so that I could settle it. Despite multiple follow-ups, no invoice or payment instructions were ever provided.

Instead of resolving this internally, Cell C incorrectly handed my account over to attorneys, with the amount escalating inconsistently (R280 / R324), purely due to Cell C’s own administrative failures.

Since July 2025, I have:

Logged multiple cases and reference numbers

Made countless calls and sent emails

Been promised callbacks and resolutions that never happened

Had calls dropped when asking to speak to supervisors in Collections

This matter has now:

Damaged my credit profile

Caused ongoing harassment by attorneys

Remained unresolved for almost a full year

Cell C’s inability to issue a simple paid-up letter or correct their error is unacceptable. This should have been resolved in days, not months.

I am now pursuing legal action unless this is urgently finalized, my credit record corrected, and the credit owed to me refunded with compensation.

Dear Freddie,

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. Please be advised that the account (Account Code: ***) was previously handed over to SSDA and has since been closed and settled in full.

We have requested the paid-up letter, arranged for the account to be removed from SSDA, and initiated the process to have the ITC updated accordingly. Kindly allow us some time while these updates are finalized.

If you’re happy with the service, we’d really appreciate it if you could share your experience in a new HelloPeter review and rate the agent. Your feedback helps us recognise excellent service and continue improving for our customers.

Thank you for your support!

Good day, Thank you for the feedback.
I will write a review as soon as the matter is "put to bed" and I get confirmation from both Cell C and SSDA on the matter. I would also like to understand what compensation is offered from Cell C in terms of the matter, which has been Cell C's oversight from the start with continuous lack of assistance to finalize the matter, until now.
The one agent that has positively assisted me is Ntibi.

Good day

Thank you for the feedback. As per my previous feedback I will give a reply on the total process as soon as it is completely resolved:

"I will write a review as soon as the matter is "put to bed" and I get confirmation from both Cell C and SSDA on the matter. I would also like to understand what compensation is offered from Cell C in terms of the matter, which has been Cell C's oversight from the start with continuous lack of assistance to finalize the matter, until now. "

So far Ntibi has been great ito the paid up letter and dealing with ITC (15 work day waiting period though) but no formal apology or compensation was yet considered, as well as the credit to be transferred to active account/s with Cell C.

Surely you can't expect a review (positive/negative) until the full matter was resolved??

Regards

Dear Freddie,

Thank you for your detailed feedback and for clearly outlining your position. We fully understand and respect your decision to provide a review only once the matter has been completely resolved and formally confirmed by both Cell C and SSDA. That is entirely reasonable.

We acknowledge your comments regarding compensation, a formal apology, and the transfer of any applicable credit to your active Cell C account(s). These concerns have been noted and will be included as part of the ongoing engagement with the relevant teams handling your case.

We appreciate your recognition of Ntibi’s assistance thus far and understand your frustration regarding the delays and the impact this matter has had. Please be assured that the outstanding aspects are still being addressed, and feedback will be provided once we receive final confirmation on all points raised.

Thank you for your patience and for allowing us the opportunity to fully put this matter to bed.

Kind regards,

Dear Freddie,

Thank you for your query regarding the outstanding status and handover of your account. Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience this matter has caused.

Following a thorough investigation, we would like to confirm the following:

-You had two contracts with us. One contract is active and up to date, while the second contract (account number ***) was permanently deactivated.

-Account *** was settled in full in July 2025 and reflected a credit balance of R110.00.

To resolve your concern, we escalated the matter to our Collections Team. They have confirmed that the account is fully paid up and have issued a paid-up letter, which has since been sent to you and acknowledged as received.

We further confirm that your ITC profile has already been updated accordingly.

As per your request, the credit balance of R110.00 from account *** has been successfully transferred to your active account ***. Your current outstanding balance is R9.00, and we have provided you with the relevant banking details to facilitate payment.

We are pleased to hear that you are satisfied with the resolution.

If you feel that your experience has improved, you are welcome to share your most recent experience in another HelloPeter review. Your feedback plays an important role in helping us recognise excellent service.

Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,

Good day, we are now a couple of weeks further. I haven't received a letter from SSDA or Cell C to confirm that all is in order - including the compensation.
