Cell C - horrible nightmare

I was very excited to start a new cell phone contract with Cell C, but my experience has turned out very poorly. I'm writing to express my dissatisfaction with Cell C and their service in hopes someone can help remedy the situation.

On the 9th of March 2016, I took out a contract from Cell C at Alberton City, in Alberton. The employee who handled the contract, compiled the wrong contract and the cell phone they gave me had an OBF (out of box failure). I wanted the Epic150 with a Samsung Galaxy J1 and I was given the Epic100. I immediately went back to Cell C the following day, 10 March 2016, to report the problems.

They told me that I had to wait up to 21 days for a new phone, because they had to send it away, and they agreed to fix the contract immediately as it was error on their side. They also promised to keep me updated. After 23 days, I went back to Cell C, never hearing from them, only to find out that the contract had not been rectified yet and they couldn’t give me a new phone before the contract has been migrated to the Epic150 deal.

Two days after, the Epic100 has been migrated to Easy Chat prepaid. I went back to Cell C, still wanting the Epic150 contract. Eventually, a week after, the contract has been migrated to Epic150 and I received another phone – faulty again with an OBF. The Cell C manager revered me to SAMSUNG in Mall of the South, because according to her, the phone only had to undergo a “software update” and then it would be perfect. So I went to SAMSUNG only to find out that it was indeed an OBF – again. That same day I went back to Cell C, handed in the faulty phone and waited another week to get a new phone.

A week later, I went back to fetch my new phone which had an OBF – again. It was sent back AGAIN and I received another phone a week later on the 24th of April, only to find out that it also had an OBF. The manager said that the only solution was to cancel the contract, because the SAMSUNG Galaxy J1 model has been discontinued and Cell C wouldn’t be able to supply me with another phone. The manager promised me that I wouldn’t be charged for the cancellation, because I did not breach the contract.

Thus far, I have paid R195.00 for initiation fees, R395.00 for a contract I did not want in the first place and a migration fee from Epic100 to Epic150 (which was not my fault either), and on the 17th of March 2016 I was charged with R2095.55 for the Epic150 contract and its cancellation fee. I went back to Cell C on the 18th of May 2016 to get the issue resolved. They said that the incorrect debit would be rectified within the next 48 hours. I was given a reference number ***. I went back to Cell C on the 23rd of May (5 days later), because my problem had not been resolved yet. They promised to resolve the problem within the next 48 hours and that they would personally contact me to keep me updated. Today is the 26th of May and I have not been contacted neither has the issue been resolved yet.

It has been more than two months already (9 March 2016 - 26 May 2016) and I have been without a phone since the first day I took out the contract. Cell C advertises affordable rates and good service which contradicts with the experience I have had so far. To pay a total of R2685.90 within a time period of a little more than two months is absurd to say the least. I would like to have the money that has been wrongfully deducted paid back into my account as I did not breach any contract and had no fault in the matter.
