Cell C hold customers Randsom - Lack of Response when Cancelling Contracts

On 07 May 2019, I called 084140, as the number given to me by an in store consultant: 084143 does not exist, to cancel my contract that is, as of today 09 May 2019, out of the 24 months contract. The call centre consultant tried several times to transfer me to the Retention Department and there was no answer. He then requested that I call direct on 084143, to which I responded to say that the number does not exist. He the gave me ********** to call. I tried that too, it doesn’t even ring. Long story short, I requested for a reference number for my call, last six digits: 715273.

I then sent an email to ********** on 08 May 2019 - serving my 30 day notice. I received an automated email response saying a consultant would be in touch within 24 hours. No luck on that either. So I called the call centre again today, twice! First time, not believing me when I say that the Retention Team number does not exist he transferred me - immediately I got the pre-recorded “This number no longer exists” and was promptly cut off. But the second call I made the consultant then gave me same numbers, tried to transfer me - with same results.

Cell C, the fact that you believe you can hold, once loyal, customers ransom to you utter lack of response and competence to simply answer internally transfers calls, email promises or update your website with correct numbers and or proceed mute to cancel contracts is absolutely shocking and COMPLETELY against the CPA! I plead with the Ombudsman and or any CPA legal consultants to set me straight here but lack of response does not give Cell C the right to simply ignore what seems to be a reoccurring problem with them (see past reviews on Hellopeter in same issues). Nor can it give you the right to simply continue debuting ones account if we have followed advice received from your very own stores and or what is a common law practice to cancel a contract with any other cell phone service provider.
