Cell C destroys credit histories and does not fix it

After being wrongly listed at credit bureaus as a non payer, Cell C undertook to correct the issue in August 2020. After requesting a credit report in November, I found that they only informed the bureaus that the account is paid up and closed, the negative payment entries never resolved. After two week of trying to get Cell C to fix the issue, I am still trying to get someone to talk to me - They refuse to give me a telephone number of a contact person or their legal department. On their Facebook, they just keep on stating someone will contact me, but no-one ever does. In the mean time, my credit score looks bad and I cannot apply for loans, car or house finance.

  • I wrote an email to their legal department at *** – No reply received
  • Left 12 messages on their Facebook Messenger over three weeks – every time I am told Legal will contact me – no contact yet
  • Gave them a negative review on Hello Peter – they rep**** Legal will contact me – no contact yet
  • Left several messages on the CellC Facebook page - Legal will contact me – no contact yet
  • Phoned their helpdesk 5 times – refuse to put me through to legal department – states every time they will get back to me – no contact from them yet

I have also taken the following steps in trying to resolve this matter:
  • Lodged several disputes at the relevant credit bureaus
  • Laid a complaint at the Credit Ombud
  • Laid a complaint at the Consumer Protection Commission
  • Procured the services of a lawyer for which I will hold CellC responsible for the eventual costs
  • I have spoken to NuDebt (who first notified my of a problem in February 2019) who have stated that the correct procedure for CellC was to completely remove the account from the credit bureaus – she also sent a message to the CellC legal department requesting this be done - nothing has happened yet.
