Several months ago I signed a Cell C data contract with Game for 5+15gb at R100 per month. A couple of months later when I noticed I was running out of airtime towards the end of the month I went to Cell C at The Glen and asked if I could top up if I ran out of data. I was told that it would not be possible as my data was capped at 5+15gb. Near the end of the following month I received an sms telling me that my next payment due was about R350. When I went to Cell C I was told that I had an automatic top up of 200mb at R1.00/mb and that I needed to cap my data at 5+15gb if I didn’t want to pay any extra on my account, which I did; so much so for what I had been told before!! The following month the same occurred and when I went to Cell C I was told that their accounts lag behind by one month so the following months account would be based on the capped data – nice move by Cell C, you only pick up (and rectify) this problem a month after the fact! Of course, nobody is prepared to accept responsibility for any of this and I was compelled to just accept it and pay. So beware when signing a data contract – make sure there are no automatic top-ups from day one!! Another dirty trick is that when you run out of midnight data your normal data will be used even during midnight data hours! This happened to me a couple of months ago and although Cell C didn’t admit it, when I complained I was given 1gb of data as “a gesture of goodwill”!

Hi Phillip
The additional amount that you were billed in October and November last year was due to the additional data usage that you had accumulated and the follow month your bill was back to normal as your threshold was reduced.
We will get one of our team members to provide clarity regarding this matter.
