Cell C changes contract terms 6 months after signing contract

I chose cell c because they had zero early cancelation fee. I have just received an sms to tell me that my contract will be amended to include a penalty for early cancelation of 50% of the remainder of the term. This is completely unacceptably and very disappointing from a service provider who is already battling with service.
