Cell C – A Masterclass in Incompetence and Frustration
I’ve been a loyal Cell C customer for years, but this recent experience has made it clear they do not value their clients. My contract is set to end on 9 December 2024, and being fami**** with their 30 days’ notice policy, I called early in November to ensure my notice was loaded. I made several calls, and one of their agents confirmed it was done.
A few weeks later, Cell C called to offer an upgrade. I opted against a new phone and chose a R150/month package for some data and call minutes. Everything seemed fine until I received my December bill – charged for a full month’s contract.
When I called to query this, I was informed that no notice was on record. They’re now telling me I must submit my notice again, even though this is their mistake! They’ve escalated the issue and claim they’ll listen to the recordings, but for now, my notice isn’t valid. This is completely unacceptable – why should I have to suffer for their incompetence?
To top it off, my first point of contact, Hlengiwe Nyanbeni, was the worst consultant I’ve ever dealt with. She skipped the security check, was rude, and when referencing my agreement, couldn’t explain the clause I asked about. When I requested a copy of the agreement, her response? “Cell C doesn’t have it, you have it.” Excuse me? You’re the service provider! She then sarcastically asked, “Who is supposed to help you?” When I insisted on speaking to a supervisor or manager, the line conveniently dropped.
Thankfully, Mpho in the cancellation department was helpful, and I’ve requested that the supervisor, Jabu, call me back because he was apparently “in a meeting.” Let’s see if this actually happens.
Bottom line: If you value your time, money, and sanity, stay far away from Cell C. Their system is broken, their staff is untrained, and their attitude is appalling. I’m moving to a provider that actually values its customers. Avoid Cell C at all costs – they are not worth the headache.
