Cancellation of Contract

I need to cancel sim card contract that is left with 7 months to expire and am told i must pay the commitment fee of R2,257.30, for heaven sake this contract does not even have the router or anything is just sim card contract for wifi, why must i pay commitment fee for something that i will not be using , cause once cancelled the data will also fall off? Wheni took over this contract i was not informed of such thing and also since i took over this contact i never received statements now , i am being *****ed money for what i dont know ,
