BE AWARE OF CELL C SUPPLYING FAULTY SIM CARDS

Signed up for a top up contract for a Samsung Neo Trend. After one month I could not make or receive calls/sms or browse the net or any other cellular services. I go in to La Lucia branch (the branch that signed me up). They tell me my sim card is faulty and that I need to pay R114 to get it replaced.
I WILL NOT DO THIS!!!!

This is ******ion. If Cell C supply 1 faulty sim card out of every 100 they distribute and collect R114 to replacement them they stand to make a lot of money *********ly. I put a screen protector and cover on my phone immediately after purchasing. I have not dropped or bumped it around from the time I got it. For me to pay money for a supp**** faulty piece of merchandise is wrong. I walked out of the branch with a 1 month old phone that is completely useless. I right at this moment of writing this have a phone that I shouldn't bother even carrying.

There has to be some type of consumer protection act that protects me here. Can I not cancel a contract that is one month old?

PLEASE BE AWARE OF CELL C SUPPLYING FAULTY SIM CARDS.
