At Cell C even managers cannot assist you

I have been with Vodacom for years - never had any issues with service or enquiries etc. When it was time for upgrades everything always went smoothly. I am now in need of an upgrade but we are only in SA for one more year and unfortunately Vodacom do not offer 12 month contracts.

I contacted Cell C (after everyone told me not to due to their shocking service which I chose to stupidly ignore) and spoke to a great Salesman Maholomola. Who assured me Cell C offers 12 month contracts - and could do a new phone with it. He worked out a price - seemed very efficient so I took the contract (he even read to me over the phone that it was binding etc.) So I cancelled my month to month with Vodacom (as my contract was up and I was doing a month to month of my previous plan). They have switched me to pay as you go as per Mahlomola's recommendation. I called to find out if everything was alright only to be told Mahlomola was not available, he was at lunch, and then just stepped out etc. etc. This started getting me very uncomfortable. Hours later I finally managed to speak to him to find out that "sorry there is an IT glitch and we can no longer follow through with the contract".

I wanted to speak to a manager - which was almost impossible (again they were in a meeting, then on lunch etc. etc.). It was only when I finally threw my toys around that someone would talk to me. Siphiwe got on the phone, seemed very competent and would sort things out - all I really want is an explanation - and promised to call me back. It took me calling over and over to finally be told not by any manager but by a salesperson that he was asked to relay a message to me that nothing could be done.

I WANT AN EXPLANATION. This is not service. I am now on a pay as you go plan which I never would have done had I known I could not get a 12 month contract. I cannot go back to Vodacom as they do not offer a 12 month contract FORCING me to stay on a pay as you go plan for the next year and with no chance of getting a new phone (mine is on its way out). Everyone knows you pay more on pay as you go then you do on a contract. This is unacceptable service and I am shocked at how we are expected to stand true to a binding contract when they think they can enter and leave one whenever it suits them. If they quoted me a wrong price and it should be more etc. I would have been quite happy to discuss what the correct amount would have been but to act so ***ardly is beyond words.

Reviewer Update

Would like to give an update on the above - I was contacted very promptly with regards to my issues and Cell C has really gone out of their way to rectify my initial experience. I should be receiving my phone this week and be converted to my one year contract at the same time. Let's hope that this is a start to a better customer experience from now on.

Thank you to Derrick Makhubele for taking the time to fix everything and to Mahlomola for still dealing with me professionally and politely after the issues.
