So wanted a Cattle Baron Steak. Knew that I had a bad experience before, but hoped that that things had changed. No luck! Ordered a filled medium rare chateaubriand. I wanted a 200g but manager came and explained they only had 300g so I agreed. Also asked waiter for advice on the wines and he knew nothing. It arrived and the waiter sort of flamed the brandy and left. Manager came and asked if everything ok and I asked where is the other sauce. He quickly asked the waiter "where is the sauce"? It came after I took my first bite. Sadly the steak was a bluey rosy colour and as tough as a as a ***boys saddle. The manager was called and explained they were having trouble with their meat since foot and mouth. Also no steak knife. Service poor, disappointing steak. I was offered 20% discount and a cup of coffee. One cannot guarantee that just because it's a franchise the food is going to be the same.

MY WIFE AND I entered the complex where CATTLE BARONS are situated just before entering the actual Simonstown town centre. unfami**** with the place we saw the security guard and asked for a place where we could have fish and calamari. he rep**** the only place he knows is the CATTLE BARONS behind him. we entered the CATTLE BARONS and was met by a tall waiter. handing us menus told us to follow him. I stopped him and asked if they only serve meat like stakes etc. he stared at me and I amplified that we are actually looking for a place to eat fish and calamari. he said yes in menu. then I realised that he is not well versed in english and said to my wife let us look in the menu first. i ordered a fresh orange juice and it came in a tin but was nice. there were 2 lines in the menu reflecting fish and chips and one calamari. We asked about the calamari. he said he will look. he came back and said yes they find calamari. language problem. i said to him that i would like the fish and asked if it is fresh. he rep**** yes all fish fresh. i said to him once in Kommetjie a waiter also told me that and in the end i ended up with a piece of P&P fish tail after i ordered middle cut hake. he said no not tail fish top part only head cut off. now the menu stateed all main meals come with vegatables. but you are allowed to swop out the chip/small potatoes for vegatables. so my wife ordered the calamari and chips and ordered fish without the chips. and he asked if i want a salad insted of the chips and i rep**** yes. my got her plate, the chips clearly was old as they were not crisp but flopped around and i know when chips are heated up in a microwave oven the calamari was a brownish colour , 50mm long pieces and about 4mm thick , including the brown smooth batter . I saw my wife had a problem cutting it and she tried to chew a few but gave up. i brought the samples home just in case there is fool calling me a ****. the fish I was served was solitary and flat. the thickest part was in the middle at 10mm at the most and tapered sideways to nothing. the widest part was 60 mm tapering to the tail. most of it was less than 5mm thick. there was a salad considting of some not so fresh letuce and a couple of pieces of soft cheese. these four pieces of 15mm square was actualy the tastiest part of the dish. no vegetables were served with either dish. when i asked about it, i was told it does not fall under the regular main dishes, yet right under the names of the dishes in the is where the sentence is printed about the veg. somebody mumbled something about tourists. now i was in the defence force ( SA NAVY ) SINCE 1962. I Have eaten all the food establishments from Fish Hoek to Cape Point. This is the worst food and service I have ever encountered. The waiter is not schooled in the restaurant line and sounds like a Zimbabwean/ Malawian. i can not judge them on the meat side of the business, but if do not have the knowledge or stock do not profess to be to serve quality stuff you can not provide. by the way I am an old fisherman myself, that was not calamari but under age tjokka!!
