BANK STATEMENT FOR CASH PURCHASE REFUND? REALLY?

Today, i returned some access material that i didn't end up using. The processing of the refund was done quickly. I was given a receipt to sign which i did using a name i go by and not the name i signed initially when i bought the material (Both are my names). The cashier asked about the name i used initially and i said they are both mine. She then asked for my ID which i didn't have on me and i was more than happy to return home and get it, since i live close to the outlet. That was not to be the case, she asked me to standby while she gets her supervisor. The supervisor came and spent 5 mins on the phone with "Head office" as he stated. Then came back to me to tell me that my refund cannot be processed and i cannot walk out with my cash. Apparently i have to get a print-out of my bank statement and bring my ID to the store for it to be sent to your head office, because "Its your protocol that ant amount above R200 is transferred into my account upon receipt of said documents". See i was willing to understand that for security purposes i HAVE to produce my ID. But to be told to submit my private and confidential information to Cahbuild for MY refund is completely *****ic! When i made the purchase, i was asked for my ID and i didnt have it either but i was made to fill in a form and continue with buying what i needed with cash and walk out. Why was i not told then that i would need my ID if a need for a refund comes up? You were more than happy to accept my cash payment and now this? All the material i needed to return are at your store together with my money. Again, i refuse to submit my bank statement for you to send me MY money. I want my money just as i paid it, IN CASH!! I WILL NOT BE BUL**** BY CASHBUILD! IF I DO NOT GET AN INSTRUCTION TO COLLECT MY MONEY FROM THE OUTLET, AND YOU INSIST I BRING MY BANK STATEMENT. IT WILL BE THE BEGINNING OF YOUR HEADACHE.

Hi Vanessa,

I managed to contact head office to corroborate what i was told by the supervisor (Cashbuild Meadowlands, on braamfisher road) and his claims were quickly dismissed. The following day, a very rude lady from the store called me to come collect my money and she threw in a bunch of excuses trying to justify that they took the necessary steps as per an "email they received from head office, about the R200 threshold and my bank statement". When i got to the store, i asked to see the supervisor and i went to go rightfully vent my dissatisfaction on the handling of the matter. I was met with a poker face and an unapologetic ******** so called supervisor who insisted on carrying on with servicing people while i was speaking to him. Needles to say, i left the store convinced that this is their usual behavior (If the manager does this, the whole team does it too) and couldn't care less about their customers frustrations. I can safely bet that they didn't think i would contact head office and lodge a complaint, until i did.

I'm an avid DIY guy and will regularly visit the store for my DIY needs. This experience knocked the taste out of my mouth but not enough to make me stop shopping there. Thanks for responding Vanessa, i really appreciate it, but the matter was resolved and i collected my funds.
