Warranty not worth the paper it is written on

I bought a LG G4 cell phone from Cash Converters N1 City branch in Cape Town for R3499,99 in October 2016. I was very happy with it and it never gave a hint of a problem when, eight weeks later, while I was driving, and it was reading an audio book to me in my safe dry car it ( with plenty of battery charge) it just stopped dead. I tried to restart it, but it just got so far with its reboot and hung.

I took it back and they said they would like their technitions to look at it. They came back to say that the water indicators were on and they were not going to honour their warrenty. I could just throw my R3500 phone in the bin. I know that I did not drop the phone in water - they said maybe while walking on the beach the humility could have caused them to turn from white to red. If this is the case every phone in Durban has red water indicators - but they still work.

I was never show the water indicators when I bought the phone or asked to inspect them when I brought it in for evaluaiton.

I was not given any written report to the effect that the phone failed as a result of the water indicators on. It seems to be a quick way out of having to honour any warenties would be to make sure all phones returned are treated to a good soaking.

On looking at the internet it seems this LG phone is subject to a problem of Boot Loop and LG are aware of the fault and would replace the phone no questions asked provided I could give them the original proof of purchase. I asked Cash Converter for this documention, but they say they only ask for proof of payment for high value phones. Is R3500 not on the higher end?

Part of my reason for buying from a dealer was that I did not want to think that I was encouraging theft of phones and that a reputable dealer would get this documenation. Hint to ****** - take your ****** cell phones to N1 City Cash Crusaders. Meet some fellow ****** and fence your ****** cells.
