If the battery is finished throw away you drill

I am very disappointed when I bought a 12v cordless drill , and when I wanted to buy a secondary battery for uninterrupted work I was told that you can not buy one! So if the battery life expires I must throw it away . This is very bad due to the fact that one does not want to wait to buy another device when you are in the middle of a project !
