CASH CRUSADERS - UNFAIR PRATICE

I pawned my laptop in January 2020. I regliously paid my montlhy interest instalment everymonth between the 25-29th of each month as my salary date was the 27th. I never had a problem before with the store, The store then went under new management and because i was two days late in paying my intetest instalment in April 2021 if was "forced" to laybye my product over three months or loose it. I was told that once the laybye was paid i could pawn the laptop again, I made my last laybye payment today. I tried to pawn my laptop today and was told that they are not prepared to loan me money against it as their was a problem with the battery. The laptop has been in their possession since January 2020 - so I had in no way damaged the battery.

What i fail to understand and the reason the I am so upset is -THAT IF I NEVER LAYBYED MY LAPTOP THEY WERE GOING TO SELL IT FOR R2500.00 - THREE MONTHS AGO KNOWING THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE BATTERY - THEY CANNOT TELL ME THAT THE BATTERY ONLY BECAME A PROBLEM NOW. THEY HAD THE LAPTOP ON THE SHOP FLOOR AND THAT IS WHY I HAD TO LAYBYE IT BACK EVENTHOUGH I COULD REALLY AND TRUELY NOT AFFORD TO PAY THE LAYBYE.

I received a call from Hennie. He is the person that deals with Hello Peter complaints. He has advised me that the store at Southdale is refusing to re-pawn my laptop because of the battery and in terms of their policy they are within their rights to do so. They are just hiding behind this policy. I really and truely feel that i have been unfairly treated- (1) Because i was two days late, my laptop was taken out and put on the store floor to sell for R2500.00 (they put the laptop on the floor knowning that there was a problem with the battery - I was told by Hennie it was to recover their costs - even though i only pawned it for R800.00 (2) I was forced to lay bye my laptop back over three months and was told that I would be able to re-pawn it after the three month period. (3) Now refusing to re-pawn the laptop because of the battery - eventhough the laptop has been in their possession for the past year. I still fail to understand how they were going to sell it for R2500.00 (with the battery not working) but they are refusing to re-pawn it for R800.00 ? If i really didnt want the laptop back, i would not have paid it for over a year and put myself in debt to laybye it. These are desparate times because of Covid especially when you are in a one household income. I wish i could acutually take this mater up with a higher authority.

So that's it. Hennie and the store owner are going to hid behind "policy".
Cash Crusaders was going to sell something that was not 100% "operational" but wont pawn it - because "policy" now plays in their favour. I am was not given an answer to how they were going to sell the laptop for R2500.00 but won't pawn it for R800.00. No proper explantion could be given. It appears that you actually dont care and make false promises, take advantage of people in these Covid time. i think i should just refer this complaint to the Omubudsman.

Hi Sian,

Unfortunately, the store has done all they can do for you and from what we have heard they had explained the reasons as to why.

Our sincere apologies.
