Cash Crusaders and dark economics
Hi
This is a summarised account of my experience at the hands of 2 individuals who part of the management of the Cash Crusaders franchise operating out of Midrand City Shopping Centre, Halfway House, Midrand. Namely Jamie and Cheryl (Surnames will be withheld for now in the interest of speedy resolution of this matter.
For a better part of this year I've been a frequent patron of this store and our relationship and engagements have, save for a few disagreements here and there, been underpinned by mutual respect and honour.
Between June and July of this year, I used my MacBook Apple laptop to secure a loan of circa R3 000. This loan was fully paid on the 02 July 2022 and I redeemed the laptop and it was handed back to me. A few weeks or so after, one of the employees at the store called to ask if I had redeemed the MacBook laptop and i rep**** affirmatively. He then asked i have proof of payment. I told him I don't have it anymore. he asked if i could get it and countered with a request to at least give me a date so I can try when i have time. He couldn't.
Subsequently, I have visited the store several times to EXTEND my other existing loans and each time i would pull up to the counter, i would ask "what is expiring shortly and how much do i need to pay to extend the loan". They would then give me a figure and i would pay the "globular" amount and would walk out with the "slips". Unbeknownst to me some/all the extension payments included the MacBook laptop, so i was paying interest for something i had already redeemed.
On the 29th October 2022 I got a very rude and accusatory phonecall from Cheryl (Manager @ Cash Crusaders) alleging the following:
1) I took the laptop from them without having paid the full redemption amount, I paid interest only and somehow i had the "gall" get them to hand over to them;
2) They have footage of the said event and it shows "everything";
3) If I don't she will institute a process to get me BANNED/BLACKLISTED from all Cash Crusaders in operation in this country.
The following day, 30th October 2022, I proceeded to visit the store to try and resolve this issue and redeem another one of my electronics held as security for a separate loan. They accepted payment and then said they couldn't give the redeemed device. I was then advised to come back the following morning to speak to the owner or management.
On the 01st November 2022, I visited the store and tried to get the item i had fully paid for the previous Sunday. I was then put in front of Jamie (Franchise owner or Most senior manager, i don't know). Before I could fully express my frustration at the "sub-human" treatment i was enduring, he quickly and condescendingly with racial undertones, told me to listen. i told him i had proof that i paid for the Mac, i was happy to show him and they can check with the bank. He screamed that i should print it and "give" to him. I said i wasn't comfortable with that because it is personal.
This is why I think this regrettable and frankly abhorrent behaviour from the 2:
1) I'm not responsible for and human and/or systemic errors that may result once I have been handed a device (Macbook in this instance). It is proof enough that THE DEVICE WAS GIVEN TO ME WILLINGLY. i paid and gave a slip to an employee who then took the slip into the back and came back with my device. Failure and/or incompetence of the individual/s or the system to record this is not my problem.
2) Openly accusing me and holding me to ransom (by withholding an item i've fully paid for) without having conclusively proven that i obtained the laptop **********ly or by way of any other ******* means is a blatant violation of my human and consumer rights. It was very clearly seasoned with racial undertones and pre-conceptions which is frankly reminiscent of "days gone by".
In conclusion, in the interest of a speedy resolution, I've withheld, the full names, audio files and video files that document the engagements summarised above. This has been done in the interest of trying to allow people a "way out" of this without putting it out there where it will be impartially judged by the court of "public opinion". Can these "bad apples" be called to order before they further damage the brand by creating an atmosphere and perception that it has an underlying ****** and/or classism problem that manifests gross disrespect with impunity.
