Greedy Money Making Machine

My wife is (was) an avid supporter of Carrol Boys. She absolutely loves (loved) the brand. My wife and myself both have online accounts at CB, since I bought her a lot of items as gifts.

Our combined online expenditure exceeded R102K last time I checked. That is excluding in-store purchases and gifts. Keep reading, the greedy money monster will be revealed soon...

We furnished an entire new house with just CB items, from cutlery to door handles.

Here is the sad reality: My wife bought (for the new house) a set of 12 steak knives. She also got a gift from a couple of her friends for her birthday (which was a number of months ago). Because of the move to the new house (packing up etc), she did not get to opening all the gifts straight away.

When she finally got to it, she saw that among them were (you guessed it!), a set of 12 steak knives. Great, now we have 24 - not all that useful if you ask me (with only 12 forks).

We tried to talk to someone at a CB shop in Centurion regarding a refund / credit (since it is all still unopened in the original packaging), to no avail. The reception was actually quite rude. It basically involved the shop keeper just pointing with her finger to the "store policy" on the counter, as if to say: "sorry suckers, we got you!"

Someone in the George store (Garden Route Mall) was very supportive and offered to personally send an email to CB, explaining the situation. Can you guess the response... Yes you can! Here it is, word for word:

'My office has informed me that they are unable to assist with your request."

Thank you to that person in the George Cb office, who actually tried to assist, we appreciate your efforts (which is more than I can say for your employer).

All I want to say in conclusion is, well done to the CB Money Digesting Machine, you've lost 2 loyal customers - for life. If this is the kind of thank you for supporting your brand for many ears, we officially quit.

As a sign of my disgust, I will now happily use my set of 12 (rather expensive) steak knives as gardening tools.
