Failed attempts at fixing a leak in the cooling system

My BMW318i was at Care Care Clinic on 18th May 2017 to find and fix a leak in the cooling system. Thereafter during the first long trip, a pipe that was not properly secured came off and all cooling liquid was lost. Roadside assistance was required and the car had to be towed to a repair facility. Car Car Clinic offered to fix the problem and to refund the tow-in cost. The car went back to Car Care Clinic for a second time to find and fix the leak in the cooling system. Total cost of repairs came to R9 493. Thereafter, during the first long trip on 29th June 2017 it became apparent that the leak in the cooling system had NOT been fixed. The car made it as far as Kranskop, in the vicinity of Modimolle from where it had to be towed to a repair facility. The real problem, which had not been identified before, was that the engine had a leaking cylinder head gasket which resulted in water "disappearing" via the exhaust system. Also, the newly fitted expansion tank was leaking. This time, the leaks in the cooling system had caused extensive damage to the car's engine. The cylinder head had to be removed and repaired. The total cost of fixing the leak in the cooling system is now in excess of R25 000. On top of this the car was out of service for a period of 5 weeks while undergoing repairs. The bottom line: Car Care Clinic tried twice to find and fix the problem of a leak in the cooling system. However, the real problem (a leaking cylinder head gasket) was not identified and it resulted in extensive damage and high repair bills. Car Care Clinic will not see this customer again.
