Worse bank is south africa

So, I had a credit card with capitec went to the bank branch to close the account, I was told that the account was closed and It will be closed in 45 days, so I'm happy and leave the branch. This was on the 31st of December 2021

Fast forward to February 2022 I get an sms saying I owe capitec bank R555 and they Will be collecting 25 from my account. I go to the branch to query the amount, I am told the account is not closed and indeed I owe the 555 for fees and interest.

How do I owe if I came and closed the account?

I regret having taken a credit card with capitec bank, I have had credit cards with almost all the major banks and they have all been able to close accounts and handle intersections with clients better.

I hope whoever is reading this hoping to take a loan, credit card or anything with this bank understand that you are in for a headache when it comes time to close the account.
