Will not honour a Power of Attorney
Before leaving South Africa, I gave my sister-in-law a General Power of Attorney. We also went to a Capitec Branch(Centurion) to sign over my daughters account as she had a fixed deposit that had not yet matured. I signed a POA at the bank and made her a secondary account holder. We were informed that she would be able to do any transaction in my absence.

The bank now has no record of the POA that we signed (despite the consultant saying it would be scanned into the system). The accounts have now been made dormant and despite everything we put in place and the guarantee that she could act in my place, we cannot access the money. I had wanted to have all the money placed in a long term fixed deposit but based on this I want all the accounts closed.

I did not opt for internet banking as the consultant said that Capitec could not offer me any guarantees on my money as I would be out of the country.

My sister-in-law has been to the branch and on the telephone to try to fix this problem. I have telephoned from overseas as well, only to be told that it will be escalated.

If this matter is not handled to my satisfaction I shall be instituting legal action.
