WHO GAVE CAPITEC PERMISSION TO CANCEL MY POWER OF ATTORNEY?

Here is a copy of my letter sent to Capitec customer care on 3 May 2020 with not even acknowledgement of receipt.

MRS FMJ MATTHEE ACC *** - WHO GAVE CAPITEC PERMISSION TO CANCEL POWER OF ATTORNEY?

Since the Ombudsman requires me to get a reference number from the relevant bank....here goes!

My mother is 82 and in lockdown in Mothwa Haven old age home. She is wheel chair bound, using oxygen and technologically challenged.

In short, Capitec will not allow both her and my account numbers to be connected to my mobile number. Thus we arranged for me to have Power of Attorney on her account.

A new card has since been issued (where she was present) but when I wanted to do business on her behalf Tuesday 28 April at Waverley Capitec (Enquery 090), I was told that I do not have Power of Attorney.

After discussions with the old age home I was informed that my mother is not allowed to leave the old age home to go to the bank. An employer from the bank will have to go there if the bank seem it necessary.

Our question is - who gave Capitec permission to cancel the Power of Attorney? Why was it not transferred to the new card? Why all the effort AGAIN?! When in the first place we did everything that had to be done in the past?

Not the cashier nor the Manager was helpfull in the situation. They just lifted their shoulders and told me someone did not do their job.....

Do you realise the implications? How am I to pay her rent? Do you realise that should something seriously happen to mother I wont be able to act?

Surely an audit trail or history should be available to see who is responsible for this mishap? Surely Capitec should be able to restore my rights if they were able to take it away?

I seriously consider closing all Capitec accounts, as saving banking fees is not worth all the frustration.

Trusting to hear from you soon.

I was contacted today and was informed that since I cannot provide the hard copies of the captured Power of Attorney documents, the issue is closed as they cannot trace it on the system. Even after attaching the pdf document of my Power of Attorney document, I was once informed that the incident is now closed and I need to escalate it to Complaint Management (by the Complant Officer herself). So here I am again, still not a happy customer, why do I have to provide proof when in the past I was able to do a transaction with Power of Attorney? Also, today I attached my copy of Power of Attorney but was cut off?
