Unreliable System and Missing Funds – Serious Concerns with Capitec Business
I am deeply concerned with Capitec Business's handling of my business account. At the beginning of the year, we moved our business banking to Capitec despite some issues, such as frequent app downtime. While the fees and features weren't too bad initially, recent experiences have left me seriously questioning the reliability of their systems.
Our business uses a transactional account alongside a flexi savings account, where we store surplus funds until needed. Last week, I transferred R3300 from the savings account to the transactional account. The app indicated that this was the available balance—being a savings account, there is no credit or overdraft facility, so the balance displayed should reflect exactly what’s in the account.
However, this Monday, I transferred R1500 back into the savings account, and the money never showed up. After several frustrating phone calls, I was told that the savings account had somehow gone into a negative balance, apparently because I had transferred more money than was available the week before. But how is this even possible? I only transferred the amount the app showed as available.
The explanations from Capitec were vague and conflicting: first, they said I must have made the transfer during system downtime; then, they claimed there were funds on hold. Ultimately, they couldn't give me a clear answer. My primary concern is, how can a BANK allow its system to display incorrect balances?
I’ve also been trying to activate notifications on my account for months with no success, meaning I’m left in the dark about where my money goes. With errors like these, how can I trust the displayed balance or feel assured that money isn’t simply going missing due to a system fault? This is unacceptable from a financial institution, and I am genuinely worried about the safety of my business's funds.
