Unfair credit-assessment.
Today, After 6 years. I decided to empty all my savings accounts I have with Capitec. And move to another bank. Currently changing all my debit orders and switch my salary. I believe I am allegedly been discriminated and treated unfairly in Capitec's credit assessment. My wife lost her job, she had to go under Debt review to meet her ends with her creditors. My wife and I are married " without accrual ". Our names are not tied to assets or credit together. When she joined the program with the debt councilor beginning of 2025, she went under it alone. This is 8 months ago. We asked the Debt councilor to deduct the monthly installment from my account early in 2025 (Husbands account with Capitec) I am the only one with an income. We have paperwork stating that what was mentioned above is true. The amount my wife needs to pay a month is less than half of my income. I decided to open a Capitec Credit card last week Monday, due to I bank all my finances with Capitec. I have been pre-approved for a credit card and a personal loan. I was very pleased with the news. My credit report is clear, and my affordability is well managed. After the application, Capitec requested documents (3 Months statements, Pay slip's and proof of residence). After 7 days, I have not received any communication from Capitec. After 3 phone calls later and been promised they will call me back. I decided to speak to a agent to receive answers why it is taking so long. The gentlemen informed me that the application was declined due to a debt review debit order going off on my account. I told him that my wife is under debt review. I have the paperwork to prove it, and signed agreement that the debit order goes of on my account, because she lost her job and does not have an income. But nothing is linked to my name and credit profile, I mean Capitec can see it on my credit report. I told the Gentlemen that I can send him the paperwork and letters/emails from the Debt counselor and I can send my marriage certificate and contract. They can calculate it as an expense. Capitec did not want to listen to my explanation. He said "Sorry sir, there is a debt review debit order on your account and therefore your application was declined and they cannot proceed with the application.
Capitec turned their back on me, assuming that I am under debt review. Their decision was made on non factual information and unfair credit assessments.
I am very disappointed how this matter was handled from Capitec. And why did I have to phone in several times to receive an answer? I decided to phone Capitec when I received a email that my application was expired and had to re-apply.
